My Project

My students are the lower-income students at an International Baccalaureate school. While many of the students who attend my school commute in from other parts of the city to take part in the college-like education that my school offers, my students are from our less affluent neighborhood. This means that they are at a disadvantage academically and socially.

They are often behind in reading, writing, math, and life experiences than more affluent families.My goal as a teacher is to find ways to make up the difference through awareness, aggressive (but obtainable) goals and cross-curriculum experiences that inspire them to want to do better for themselves!

My Project

Students will start off the school year with a lot of the things that they need. However, a month into the school year, those supplies wear out and don't get replenished at home. My goal is to have a lot of extra supplies on hand to replace and use to support students without having to think twice about supply levels, cost or any other consideration that is an impediment to learning.

The supplies I am adding to my list are things that are expected: pencils, paper, composition books, but also various classroom supplies for class projects that students will need, but may not be able to afford.
