This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

In my Kindergarten class I have a small group of students who arrive at school not having had prior exposure to using scissors or writing/coloring with pencils, crayons and other writing tools. These students often struggle and become frustrated when these fine motor activities are hard for them. I created an OT support box that has a few different activities for those students to practice each morning such as drawing on the various lines, cutting on various lines and lacing cards. These activities get boring after a while.

Therefore, we are looking for more fun ways to continue practicing fine motor skills!

After watching my daughter at home making necklaces and bracelets out of these tiny rubber bands, I thought to myself how much finger manipulation she was using while making her creation. I thought something like that could be great for a group of my students and they would have a product to take home with them and be proud of!

I am hoping to get various bead and rainbow loom materials for my OT group to work with to bring some more engagement and joy into this work!
