My students need financial literacy games to teach them to be fiscally responsible. We need Payday, Life, Money Flascards and toy cash registers to continue learning about financial literacy.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My class consists of a diverse group of learners. My classroom has 26 second grade students from varying abilities. The socioeconomic background of our students is more than 90% poverty level. I teach in an urban inner city school rich with diverse cultures from all over the world. Most of my students need additional learning materials to meet grade level expectations. Our school saying is Better today than yesterday! Better tomorrow than today! I want to make their tomorrow better!

My Project

My students would benefit from having engaging materials to continue their learning about financial literacy. Teaching second graders about finances is a real-life skill. Being able to count money correctly is very important in your daily life.

Using engaging materials like Pretend and Play Calculator Cash Registers, The Game of Life, Payday, Exact Change and Money Bags games will excite my learners to want to LEARN!

They will ask to play these games frequently and choosing them as choice activities for center time learning. My students will enjoy using money flash cards to play matching games to learn how to count change to $1.00.

My students will create a marketplace with items to sell that they will price themselves. They will take turns being the shopper and the cashier to learn how to buy and sell items correctly. They will enjoy using the cash registers to add up the total cost for the shopper. They will build financial literacy by engaging in real life financial transactions in the classroom.

This is Part II of my financial literacy unit. Our first financial literacy project was fully funded! The students will be using materials from our first financial literacy project such as the Money Hands On Kit and Money Station to work in the marketplace. Financial literacy

Students need to master counting change and making money combinations correctly in Second Grade to further their learning in future grades.
