My Students

We have 25 students with a variety of needs and abilities. As a school in Sandy, Utah we have students from all socioeconomic backgrounds that require different learning approaches. As a teacher of 25 years, it is difficult to have the appropriate resources and materials to address all the differentiated needs of all of these individual students. Additionally, COVID 19 has wreaked havoc on the social and emotional needs of our students.

My Project

After two difficult school years, I am focusing on improving my students' social and emotional learning through a token society. My students have a chance to earn classroom money to spend on an assortment of class prizes to help motivate them to complete homework, participate in virtual learning and maintain a positive and resilient attitude during yet another year of uncertainty and stress. Our ending goal is to inspire and motivate our students to rise to the challenges of learning during a pandemic.

During COVID 19, students have additional anxiety and stress coming back to in-person learning.

Through these PBIS incentives, our fifth-grade team is hoping to provide our students with motivating incentives to increase their ability to be resilient and get back into the daily rigor that is required to be successful in fifth grade and to prepare them for middle school and ultimately be college and career ready.
