This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is located in southwest Oklahoma City and serves students in Pre-K through 5th grades. Our mission is to build a 21st century learning environment that promotes collaboration, critical thinking, problem-solving, creativity, and innovation. We accomplish this with a whole-child approach where each child feels safe, healthy, supported, engaged and challenged. Sadly, many of our students live in poverty and face many challenges, both at home and in school. Over 95% of our students qualify for free or reduced price lunch, and many are raised in single-parent homes.

Our students enjoy learning about the world around them and take pride in their work!

Sadly, some of our students have never been outside Oklahoma City, or even their own neighborhood. Field trips that allow them to participate in real-world life experiences are extremely valuable to them. However, because of funding issues in our school and district, field trips are impossible unless transportation is funded through Donors Choose.

My Project

During the field trip to the Braum's Farm, our first grade students will observe the manufacturing process of milk and ice cream being made and packaged on an assembly line, using fresh milk from cows on the farm. First, they will watch a video about the Braum's farm, and they will ride on a special "cow bus" to the manufacturing plant. We will also enjoy lunch at nearby park.

This field trip will coincide perfectly with our social studies lessons on producers, consumers, goods, and services.

Students will gain practical, real-world experience of the social studies concepts that they will be learning!
