My Project

Our campus is uniquely adjacent to Rose Creek in San Diego, California. Because of this, our students can explore local habitats in a classroom setting within a class period. This helps to reduce the need for long-distance field trips, which can be logistically challenging and expensive. At our school, students can simply step outside the school gate and start exploring. One of our goals in our department is to increase students' access to hands-on learning and student-driven inquiry.

The metric fiber tape reel and bird guides will be used for projects such as collecting data via transect and quadrat sampling, exploring intertidal zonation, and measuring tidal flow in our neighboring habitats.

These skills will help students develop scientific survey method skills that they can apply to a variety of classroom-related future projects and individual research topics.
