In this lab, they were able to extract their DNA, amplify their DNA using a procedure called polymerase chain reaction, cut their DNA using a restriction enzyme digest, and finally run a gel electrophoresis to determine their genotype. By the end of the lab, they were able to find their actual genotype and see if their prediction was correct. \r\n\r\nThis lab was a big, multi-day endeavor, and the students really enjoyed it. They thought that it was so cool that they were able to test their own DNA and many of them asked for extra PTC papers to see if their parents and siblings could taste the chemical as well.
