This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are 1st-6th graders who have learning disabilities and come to me for extra support. They all work hard each and every day to meet their goals.

Many of my students have difficulty with sustained attention.

Fidgets, such as squishies, stretchies, pop-its, and similar items are "in" right now, so kids get to feel included while still using the fidgets for their purpose: to get out that extra energy and help them stay focused in class.

My Project

Fidgets help students with deficits in the area of attention and focus by providing them something passive to engage in. Having something that meets sensory needs (e.g. a fidget in their hand) provides the right amount of input students need to help them truly focus on what matters: the instruction being presented. When students can focus, they can learn! Fidgets help them do that - in a socially-acceptable way.

Students are able to select fidgets to take with them to class each day.

If they want a different one, they must first return the one they checked out. These fidgets are sanitized and returned to the box for repeated use by any student who needs help focusing.
