These materials have made a remarkable difference for my students, bringing both joy and unexpected growth into our sessions.\r\n\r\nThe kinetic sand has provided a calming, hands-on sensory experience that has led to unexpected sustained attention to task and noticeably increased engagement. Students who typically struggle to remain focused are now staying with activities longer, participating more readily, and transitioning into their speech and language work with greater ease. The sand has also encouraged spontaneous communication during indirect speech-language tasks, as students naturally narrate their creations, ask questions, describe textures, and engage in shared play.\r\n\r\nThe social-emotional books have been just as impactful. They have become wonderful tools for teaching perspective-taking, emotional vocabulary, and problem-solving skills. My students are connecting deeply with the stories and characters, making it easier to model and practice communication strategies in a meaningful and relatable way.\r\n\r\nYour contributions have truly enriched our learning environment and expanded what is possible during therapy. Thank you for helping my students grow in communication, emotional understanding, confidence, and joy.","fullyFundedDate":1758841664217,"projectUrl":"project/speech-and-language-development/9740686/","projectTitle":"Speech and Language Development","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Fukuda","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9606652"},{"teacherId":10250261,"projectId":9701634,"letterContent":"Since receiving these novels, I've already seen a meaningful shift in how my students approach reading. The Witches has helped introduce and strengthen key California Common Core State Standards for Grade 6, particularly RL.6.2 (determining theme), RL.6.3 (analyzing how plot and character development unfold), and RL.6.1 (citing textual evidence). Students eagerly tracked how the Grand High Witch's plans developed over time, debated whether the protagonist truly \"changed,\" and supported their thinking with specific moments from the text. These conversations have laid a strong foundation as we move into Hatchet, where students are now deeply engaged in analyzing Brian's internal growth, survival decisions, and how the wilderness setting shapes the plot and theme. We are currently halfway through Hatchet, and students are already making thoughtful comparisons between the two stories' protagonists and challenges.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom has become a shared, lively experience rather than a quiet, isolating task. We read one chapter a day, blending oral reading, teacher modeling, and student voice. Students often volunteer to read aloud, and during dialogue-heavy scenes, specific students read the lines of particular characters—something they look forward to and prepare for. This structure has increased fluency, confidence, and comprehension, especially for students who previously avoided reading aloud. Having consistent access to the books allows us to pause, reread powerful scenes, annotate together, and return to earlier chapters to deepen understanding—something that simply wasn't possible when borrowing limited copies from other schools.\r\n\r\nPerhaps the most powerful impact has been on students who once identified themselves as \"not readers.\" Several students who rarely participated in reading discussions are now among the most invested, eagerly predicting what will happen next in Hatchet and debating Brian's choices. One student who previously struggled to finish independent reading assignments now asks to take the book home so he can read ahead. Another, who rarely spoke in class, confidently volunteered to read dialogue during The Witches and now looks forward to reading time each day. These novels have helped transform reading from a source of anxiety into a shared adventure. Thanks to this project, my students are beginning to see themselves not just as students who read—but as readers who belong in stories.","fullyFundedDate":1758074531557,"projectUrl":"project/from-reluctant-readers-to-story-explorer/9701634/","projectTitle":"From Reluctant Readers to Story Explorers","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Riojas","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10250261_orig.jpg?crop=405,405,x119,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1757712738539","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10250261"},{"teacherId":9348350,"projectId":9020388,"letterContent":"Generous Donors,\r\n\r\nWe want to extend a heartfelt thank you for your generous donation of health books.
