Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am very lucky to teach Kindergarten in a school that is part of a Dual Immersion program. Our Dual Immersion program brings together students from different language and socioeconomic backgrounds to learn academic content through instruction in both English and Spanish.

I love hearing "Buenos dias, maestra" every day in the morning from little voices that are eager and excited to learn every day.

Our school has over 500 students, 14% who are classified as English learners and 85% of students who come from low-income families. In our dual immersion school, all of these statistics help our classroom be diverse, multilingual, and bi-cultural—a richness that I remind students of every day.

My Project

Students in my classroom need kinesthetic movement constantly to focus. By providing fidget toys to use in the classroom and in our calming corner, students will have the opportunity to release their energy in a positive way. As a result, they will be able to focus during whole class lessons during carpet time and in their desks.

These fidget toys will allow all students to feel engaged.

Additionally, adding these items to our new calming corner will help us create a welcoming classroom environment for all students where they will feel comfortable learning.
