My Students

I teach at a urban high school situated on 76 acre campus located in Indiana. We have approximately 2100 students attending five College and Career options, which seek to prepare our students to meet the challenges of the future. We are a Title I school which serves a diverse population of students from different cultures and backgrounds.

My students are tech savvy 14 and 15 year olds transitioning from middle school to high school.

They are eager to learn more about themselves and the the world around them. Many of my students are ELLs, and striving learners reading below grade level. All of my students experience difficulty reading and comprehending grade level text.

My Project

Many of my students are English Language Learners whose primary language is other than English. Often ELL's have limited vocabulary, which hinders their ability to comprehend English reading and writing. Additionally, in my classroom I have students who are recent immigrants to this country and are unable to speak English.

Romeo and Juliet, a classic story by William Shakespeare is a 9th grade staple.

Romeo and Juliet is a complex text which helps students develop critical reading and writing skills. Our textbook does not have a Spanish translation. Providing my students a Spanish version of Romeo and Juliet will give ELL students an opportunity to read and comprehend this classic in their own language.
