Many of my students are English Language Learners whose primary language is other than English. Often ELL's have limited vocabulary, which hinders their ability to comprehend English reading and writing. Additionally, in my classroom I have students who are recent immigrants to this country and are unable to speak English. Romeo and Juliet, a classic story by William Shakespeare is a 9th grade staple. Romeo and Juliet is a complex text which helps students develop critical reading and writing skills. Our textbook does not have a Spanish translation. Providing my students a Spanish version of Romeo and Juliet will give ELL students an opportunity to read and comprehend this classic in their own language.
