Fantastic Fluency Phones

My students need fluency phones to be able to practice their reading fluency without disrupting others, listen to and reflect on their reading, and share their reading with the teacher and their families.

My Students

The best way for children to learn to read is to be surrounded by quality literature and to be given opportunities to explore it. My students are at various reading levels but all share one common goal: to become better readers. A key part of becoming better readers is building reading fluency.

My students are working hard to reach their reading fluency goals this year.

With less time and staff to provide additional reading support, my students need even more opportunities to practice their fluency in the classroom. This requires that they read aloud, to themselves without being a distraction to others. I want to provide students with a way to practice their reading fluency daily, listen to and reflect on their reading, and share their reading with others. Ultimately I want to empower my students to work toward their goals and share their successes with those around them.

My Project

My students want to become better readers and that starts with building their reading fluency. The more opportunities they have to read text aloud and reflect on their reading, the more fluent readers they will become. My students need a way to practice their fluency daily without disrupting the others around them.

These fluency phones will allow my students to read aloud, listen to and reflect on their reading fluency, and share their reading progress with friends and family.

I plan to use these fluency phones as part of my daily language activities so that students are practicing their fluency daily and able to share it with me and their family via their personal learning device. Currently my students read aloud to the speaker on their device and they must read loudly to be heard clearly through the speaker. We are unable to do this regularly in a classroom with 20+ students.

The fluency phones would allow multiple students to be practicing their fluency and progress to be monitored each day.
