Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are curious, energetic, and love learning through hands-on experiences. As 3rd graders, they thrive when they can explore, build, and discover how the world works around them. Many of my students learn best by doing, and I strive to create meaningful opportunities that make learning both exciting and memorable.

This project will allow my students to explore solar energy by designing and building their own solar ovens to make s’mores.

Through this engaging activity, they will learn about heat transfer, the power of the sun, and basic engineering concepts in a fun and meaningful way.

The materials requested—including pizza boxes, aluminum foil, plastic wrap, black construction paper, graham crackers, chocolate, and marshmallows—will provide everything students need to successfully build their solar ovens and observe how sunlight can be used as a source of energy. Each item plays an important role: the foil reflects sunlight, the plastic wrap traps heat, and the black paper absorbs it, allowing students to see science concepts in action.

By combining science with a fun and familiar treat, this project will spark curiosity, deepen understanding, and create lasting memories. My goal is for students to walk away not only with new knowledge about renewable energy, but also with excitement and confidence in their ability to explore and learn.

Your support will help bring this hands-on science experience to life for my students.
