Exploring Science - Stirring Hot Plates

My Project

My students are eager learners who love to explore science beyond the pages of the textbook. We are a Title I school in one of the most impoverished areas of the state, so it is often difficult to give them all of the science experiences that more affluent schools are able to offer.

Having these stirring hot plates available for my students will allow them to perform more complicated and engaging labs in person.

In this project, I am requesting two stirring hot plates and stirring bars. These items will give my students the chance to perform labs, make more complex mixtures and solutions, and explore concepts in biology that they previously couldn't. My students will be able to make their own agar plates to grow bacteria cultures, make agar cubes that can be used to explore diffusion in cells of different sizes, and explore enzyme activity in yeast and other forms of catalase. This equipment will be very helpful in engaging my students in biology content in a more impactful way.
