Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our ELL students need all the help they can get in connecting english to their language. Books on CD/tape is fun for them and not difficult, like all the other tasks in the classroom.

My school is located in an area with a very high Spanish-speaking population.

Most of the parents do not speak English and can be of no help to their child. Most of these students are the first English speakers in their household. They have to learn a new curriculum and language at the same time. At times you can see their little minds thinking of how to say a word, they try so hard. I just want to give them every opportunity to learn.

My Project

My students will be able to independently learn and enjoy reading and not even know it. Listening to a story being told with voice and expression, while the student follows along in a book, will help with the language barrier. It will help my students to understand the different ways to communicate with others. That is why I have requested books on tape/CD accompanied with the books. The magazine subscription is for a quick informal read for the students. They get information without a lot of print.

All of my students have loved the listening center.

They love the different stories and the ease of reading them with an accompanying tape/CD. They are learning reading and language skills not even knowing it. What more could a teacher ask for?
