Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students include students that have recently arrived in California from Yemen, Guatemala, Mexico, Honduras, Afghanistan, and El Salvador and students from historic African-American communities right here in Oakland. My students love to read and have requested titles of their own interest.

This project was initiated because a student that was disengaged in many classes revealed that she reads a lot at home but not at school.

I wanted to make sure that I had materials to incentivize her engagement in classroom exercises. I will now be able to engage her interests and those of her classmates.
