Over the next few days, they eagerly checked for growth, making observations and asking thoughtful questions about where bacteria thrive and why. This hands-on experience made abstract concepts feel real, and students were genuinely engaged in the scientific process.\r\n\r\nWhen the refrigerator first arrived, students were immediately curious and excited -they kept asking, \"What are we going to use it for?\" Once they realized it meant more experiments and real lab materials, their enthusiasm grew even more. It gave them a sense that our classroom is a true science lab, not just a place to read about science. They've also used it to prepare for a density lab, storing ice ahead of time so they could explore how temperature affects mass and volume. These experiences have helped build both their confidence and their curiosity.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, students will continue using these materials as we deepen our investigations into human systems and scientific inquiry. They are beginning to design their own mini-experiments, using what they've learned about variables, observation, and data collection. The refrigerator allows us to sustain longer-term experiments and revisit them over multiple days, which is helping students think more like real scientists. Our mini water fountain and jellyfish lamp have added gentle sensory elements—soft movement, soothing light, and calming sounds—that help students decompress during moments of stress or overwhelm. Even something as simple as having the proper USB cable has allowed us to consistently power and maintain these tools, ensuring the space is always ready when students need it. Together, these additions have created a more welcoming, peaceful environment where students feel safe, supported, and empowered to regulate their emotions and return to learning successfully. \r\n\r\nMy students reacted very happily to the materials. My next steps are to keep letting my students use the peace corner decorations and materials. One moment that stood out was when a student who usually struggles with written work became the \"lead engineer\" of their group, confidently explaining why adjusting the height changed the marble's speed. That kind of ownership doesn't happen without materials to experiment with.\r\nWhen the boxes first arrived, the reaction was pure excitement. Students kept asking, \"Is that for us?\" and immediately started brainstorming what we could build. There's something powerful about middle schoolers seeing that someone outside of our classroom believes in their learning enough to invest in it. Students will use the materials to create earthquake-resistant structures and test them on a shake platform.
