We have been meeting once a week for the past 3 months and now have a loyal group of regulars, as well as students who come in and out. Students are getting the hang of the art form now, and are starting to produce some very fun work. \r\n\r\nWe are partnering with the drama and art classes to be part of Frick's Spring Art Night in March. The zine club will have a table at the event and we will be working on \"publishing\" our zines to give out at the event. In January and February students will be refining their zines and deciding which ones they want to officially publish and let out into the world. So far, many zines have to do with food and dogs (both together and separately). \r\n\r\nAs we solidify into a zine making crew, I am noticing that this club gives some of our quieter students a space to be alone but in community during lunch. It is also a space where students from different backgrounds are coming together and mixing up between languages and grade levels. I am so appreciative of your donations to this project so we could get it going. The snacks have been a great incentive to keep students coming back, and it's nice to have plenty of good pens and other materials to work with. \r\n\r\nCheck out some pics of work in progress. Before, small-group lessons were difficult to manage because students were spread out across different desks. Now, the table brings us together in a focused, supportive space where I can sit in the center and give each learner the targeted attention they need.\r\n\r\nMy students and I use this table throughout the day for vocabulary review, phonics practice, fluency reading, and guided activities related to the writing process. One meaningful moment happened last week during a writing lesson: we gathered around the table to expand simple sentences. Because everyone could see each other and share materials easily, students felt more confident taking risks, helping each other, and reading their sentences aloud. The sense of community was unmistakable—they were learning together, not just individually.\r\n\r\nWhen the table first arrived, my students were genuinely excited. Many of them are newcomers who have never experienced this type of collaborative learning space. They immediately sat down, explored the materials, and asked if they could read or practice vocabulary there. It quickly became the \"special table\" where meaningful learning happens.\r\n\r\nThanks to your generosity, our small-group lessons are now more engaging, organized, and effective. As we continue our current units, students will use this table to draft paragraphs, practice new vocabulary in conversations, and build fluency through partner reading. These next steps will help them grow as readers and writers while developing confidence in English.\r\n\r\nYour support has made a real difference in our classroom, and my students feel it every day. Students' imaginations have been running wild as they collaborate to design, build, and create unique science-inspired structures. These hands-on materials have encouraged critical thinking, teamwork, and creativity in ways that worksheets simply can't capture.\r\nThe LEGOs have also helped me teach foundational skills through the use of rubrics—students now plan, build, and then self-assess their projects based on clear criteria for creativity, effort, and scientific connection. Watching them take ownership of their learning and proudly present their creations has been amazing. Students used the resources to design models of cells, illustrate energy transfer in ecosystems, and even create posters explaining chemical reactions through art. Their confidence and pride in their work have skyrocketed.\r\nWe're now diving into a STEAM showcase where students are combining digital art, recycled materials, and science concepts to teach younger grades.
