A class set of this book by John Lewis will provide some historical contexts of the struggle our students' families have faced. The events told in this book will allow our students to do a deeper dive into what exactly took place during the civil rights movements. Our students will be able to find a connection with the stories of John Lewis and their own lives. Students will also be encouraged to connect those events to current social issues they face today. As an extension activity, they will be encouraged to take action on a social issue of their choice.
