Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Each day, 400 students walk through our school doors. Each student is greeted with love, warmth, and care. Our first focus is on meeting their most basic needs: food, clothing, healthcare, and safety. When each of those needs is met, we work on building social, emotional, and academic skills. Our teachers meet regularly to discuss lessons, needs, and the support our students need to succeed in school.
Many of our students are struggling greatly with their ability to focus, control their impulses, and manage their movement needs in their classrooms, so we are hoping to add an exercise bike that is sized for our Kinder, 1st, & 2nd graders to our sensory room to help them release some energy!
While we recently received a giant exercise bike, we now need one sized for our youngest learners to help focus their energy and attention and release it appropriately, rather than running throughout their classroom and disrupting the learning of others. We try to have a variety of movement activities to keep students engaged, items novel, and students functionally using their bodies, then return to their classrooms ready to learn!
