My English students are excited to be back in school this year, but it is apparent that many let their reading skills lag a little bit over our pandemic year. The majority of my students stayed remote throughout the 20-21 school year, and have not been in a classroom since their 9th grade year. My goal this year is to reintroduce them to a classroom environment, and spark the desire for learning again.
A current, well-stocked classroom library enables me to encourage reading and offer options right inside my classroom.
My students utilize my library constantly, and it provides an easy way for me to talk about reading and titles with them.
My students are a little anxious about what this school year will bring. By introducing them to a good book and reminding them of all they are capable of, they will learn well.
My Project
These materials will make a difference by offering choice to students. In selecting a variety of books on various topics, students are likely to find something that interests them.
These new titles will offer some further reading options for students.
The nonfiction titles are significant, as many students have not read much nonfiction. I am looking to provide an entry into the world of nonfiction reading through these books. Many students don't yet realize how fun it is to read about the natural world and real events in the compelling way these books present their stories.
