My students need to read each and every day to build their reading comprehension skills as well as their ability to empathize. It is through reading that students experience lives that are markedly different from their own, and can grow as a result of their new understanding of humanity. Students need current, relevant, high-interest books readily available to make reading a habit and priority. By adding to my classroom library, my students will be able to select and read books that they may not hear about or notice otherwise. Easy access to books yields more reading, and I want to develop students who read for the rest of their lives.
