Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are 16-18 year old who are curious ,hardworking, motivated kids who usually are 1st generation college applicants. They are inspired by their dreams of success and having the ability to be independent and give back to those they love the most.

My students want to learn about science with hands on , creative, and interesting ways that will invigorate them and excite them!

Students in my school are part of an AVID school which focuses on getting them the help and guidance to get into an 4 year college. My schools demographic is mostly Hispanic and African American.

My Project

Science is a fascinating field ! However, due to time constraints and curriculum , students usually don't get much time to learn about many interesting real life events in science.

My goal is to create a scientifically literate classroom to allow my students to become well rounded and educated members of our society.

I strongly believe that if these students see the real-world application of the material we are covering in Biology they will be better engaged and invested in science.

My hope is to build a classroom library full of science books that spark interest in not only reading but also in scientific research and STEM.

The books I selected are at various reading levels and they will be used for years to come in immersing thousands of students in the amazing discoveries in Biology. Give my students the opportunity to get excited about science in an informal way that can broaden their views and hopefully inspire them to become the next Franklin, Darwin, Mendel, or Curie !
