Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from low-income families. Most of them receive free or reduced-price lunch. Some of them do not have enough money to buy school supplies. Some of them need to walk to school because they do not have enough money for a bus.
Many of our students deal with different family issues that greatly impact their academic and behavioral performance.
My students experience parents getting divorced, a lack of parents, having a baby at their young age, being homeless, babysitting siblings, working to help out their parents, etc. Most of our students are Hispanic. I have a good number of students with special education needs as well as ELL students. Many of our students will be the first in their families to go to college.
My Project
We never had a math library in our classroom. So why not change that? We got some books before the quarantine but they are probably in some boxes waiting for us to return to the building.
It would be awesome to get some more resources, books and workbooks, to add to our "future" library and to the class sets of resources which I am planning to work on once we return to school.
I believe that with your generous hearts it is possible. Can you please help us out? I think that it is hard to put reading and math together. It is a little difficult to think about reading in math class besides reading word problems. The books I requested can solve that problem. And if it comes to workbooks, we could use math workbooks with sheet protectors to practice different daily skills in the form of "math minutes" exercises.
