EVOlving Math: Technology for IB Success

My Project

Technology is an essential part of learning mathematics in my classroom, especially for my students studying IB Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation. Throughout the course, students are expected to explore functions, analyze data, perform statistical calculations, investigate patterns, create mathematical models, and use technology to solve real-world problems. Having consistent access to a handheld graphing calculator allows students to spend less time worrying about whether they have the right technology and more time thinking about the mathematics.

The TI-84 Evo graphing calculators requested through this project will provide my students with reliable access to the same powerful mathematical tool during daily instruction, collaborative investigations, independent practice, and assessment preparation.

Rather than simply using these calculators to obtain answers, students will learn how to use technology to visualize mathematics, test ideas, analyze graphs and data, interpret results, and determine whether their solutions make sense.

By supporting this project, donors will help provide equitable access to IB-approved hand-held graphing technology and allow every student to develop confidence and proficiency with the tools they need for success in mathematics.

One of my goals is for students to become thoughtful users of technology; not students who simply press buttons. With regular access to the TI-84 Evo, I can explicitly teach students how and when technology can support mathematical reasoning while still emphasizing understanding, communication, and problem-solving. Because these calculators will remain in our classroom, this project will continue benefiting new groups of mathematics students for years to come.

Your support will help us create a classroom where access to powerful mathematical technology does not depend on what a student can personally afford. Instead, every student will have the opportunity to explore, model, analyze, and confidently engage with mathematics.
