The children in my classroom range in age from 3 to 5 years old. Each child has some type of disability in the area or areas of communication, cognitive, social/behavioral, and/or physical development. As a part of a very large urban school district, children come from very diverse family situations. Diversity meaning new to the country, English as a second language, two-parent families, one parent families, children in foster care, families that are homeless, and sometimes a mixture of the above. These diverse characteristics are in addition to each child's disability.
The most exciting part of our classroom is that I am often able to spend more than one year teaching a child!
As I develop a relationship with each child (and their family), he/she brings their version of excitement for learning!
My Project
The listening center couch will be an inviting place for two friends to independently listen to books. The listening center seating has a designated area designed for a CD player that headphones will plug into for two children. Multiple sets of headphones have already been supplied in the classroom that are compatible with the CD player.
Two students at a time will be able to share a book!
The book sets requested with this project have multiple copies of the same title so that students may share the story while following along in a copy of the book. The titles chosen are complementary to our curriculum and themes.
