My Students

Being in a school filled with students who come from mostly single-parent and low-income families, I want to show these students they really can do anything they set their mind to. My students are the future of America, and I remind them of that every single day.

My students are a great group of "Goal Getters" as we like to call ourselves.

They love to set goals and then smash them, often running to tell me they've upped a score, passed off a set of math facts, or gotten through three more fluency phrases than yesterday.

My Project

As a first year teacher, I thought having a tub full of books for each reading level would keep my students reading and happy. I was wrong. Numerous times I've heard, "I'm done with the books from my tub... Now what?" This was not a question I was expecting to have so early.

It is only week three of school and many of my students have flown through the books on their level and are eager for more.

I would hate for my students to lose their love of reading due to the amount of books I can provide for them. Not only is my library lacking books, but it is lacking books that my students are interested in. Most of my books have been handed down from teacher to teacher and ended up on my shelf very well loved.

I'd love for my class to have books that would keep them begging for more silent reading time.
