These new 6th-grade level books have opened the door for students to explore a variety of genres, themes, and writing styles that support key reading skills. Through these texts, my students are learning to make inferences, identify theme and tone, analyze character motivation, and strengthen their ability to cite textual evidence when discussing or writing about what they read. Having engaging and appropriately challenging books allows them to practice these skills in ways that feel exciting and meaningful.\r\n\r\nIn our classroom, reading is a shared adventure. Each day, students have time for independent reading, small-group book discussions, and whole-class reflections. We focus on building comprehension through conversation. Students love connecting stories to their own lives or current events. These new books have made our reading time feel fresh and energizing. They've also helped students discover that reading can be both personal and social, as they eagerly recommend books to one another and share favorite moments.\r\n\r\nSeveral students who previously struggled to find joy in reading have been especially inspired by the new selections. One student who rarely finished a book before has now proudly completed two novels and is asking for more recommendations. Another student told me she finally found a book character who \"thinks just like me.\" These moments remind me why access to diverse, engaging books matters so much. Your donation has not only filled our shelves. It's filled our classroom with excitement, confidence, and a renewed love of reading.","fullyFundedDate":1754455078532,"projectUrl":"project/getting-lost-in-a-new-novel/9502742/","projectTitle":"Getting Lost in a New Novel","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Lemley","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp2215419_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1533845022808","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrs-lemley"},{"teacherId":6524994,"projectId":8596643,"letterContent":"Our teachers are under attack. They sacrifice so much of their lives to ensure the success of all students and don't often feel the validation and gratitude from our stakeholders, especially our legislators.\r\nI'm thrilled to be able to provide a small token of appreciation to them thanks to your generous donation. I can now celebrate them on their birthdays with a candy bar, and during teacher appreciation week with a gift card to Teachers Pay Teachers and sweet notebook.\r\nNot only am I able to reward the teachers and help them to feel some validation, but I can now reward students for working hard towards goals.
