Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My Project

In this project, I would like to get many of the little things that will help foster a supportive and warm learning environment.

These items will be used in the calm corner and tea station, aquarium (with shrimp!), and the everyday activities in science class.

All of my efforts to go above and beyond require the supplies to make them happen; this DonorsChoose supplies all of these many little things that add up to a positive, and supportive learning environment.

The Calm Corner has been a wonderful addition to my science classroom this year - it is a space where students can escape overstimulation, and reset their minds (with puzzles, weighted blankets, books, and more). The tea station is another way for students to reset and refocus, this time while they experience the calming ritual involved in making and drinking a cup of tea. This may seem outside the scope of science education, but taking 5-10 minutes to support their development of stress-coping and re-centering skills helps my students to receive, process, and retain the ideas being taught. I have also put many snacks on the list for those students who have food insecurities and/or are unable to concentrate because they missed breakfast and can only think of when lunch will be.
