Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have a unique group of students this year, with many different backgrounds, cultures, personalities, and needs. While they each have diverse needs, as a whole they have many social/emotional needs.
I am a first year teacher, entering a new district, starting a new grade level, and I am continuing to fill an empty classroom.
All students deserve the best; help me make that possible!
I have purchased a classroom set of the essential supplies (pencils, erasers, scissors, colored pencils, paper, etc.) but there a lot of items missing that will help them achieve their best throughout the year.
My Project
Each and every day I am teaching and I pause and think, "wow, if we had ______, this lesson would be much better," or, "wow, if I had ______, the prep time for this task would be cut in half!" I started compiling a list of these type of supplies and have learned the beauty of the following: packaging tape, single hole punch, staple remover, and a sturdy pencil sharpener.
How in the world do my students go through 12 pencils a day, and HOW did they manage to break a brand new pencil sharpener within 36 hours?
My first year of teaching has taught me the importance of setting boundaries and having off-limits supplies. Unfortunately there were some casualties along the way - RIP X-ACTO Pencil Sharpener No. 1.
Aside from these everyday gems, our school is preparing for an art show in Spring. We plan to use canvas to wow their families and create a great keepsake.
