The acrylic paints, watercolor sets, canvases, brushes, watercolor paper, and oil pastels have brought so much excitement, creativity, and learning into my sixth-grade class. This is my first-year teaching sixth grade after teaching kindergarten last year, and these materials truly helped transform our classroom environment and connect me with my students in meaningful ways.\r\n\r\nWe used every supply you sent as part of hands-on science projects that blended science, art, and writing. Our first unit focused on weather, especially wind patterns. Students created Van Gogh–inspired \"Starry Night\" paintings using acrylics and canvases, discussing how swirling brushstrokes resemble movement in the sky. Many had never painted on a real canvas before, and their faces lit up seeing their work come alive.\r\n\r\nDuring our lesson on clouds, students completed watercolor crayon-resist projects showing cloud types, shapes, and movements. They added a hot air balloon illustration and wrote about a hot air balloon trip, connecting science, art, and writing into one meaningful project.\r\n\r\nIn October, students created color-wheel spider webs with hand-drawn spiders using watercolor and oil pastels, then made night scenes with silhouetted bats. Many wrote fictional stories to accompany their artwork. These projects were a huge hit, and students were excited to experiment with mixing colors, layering mediums, and adding details.\r\n\r\nMost recently, we studied sunflowers and conducted a growth experiment. Students created sunflower drawings with oil pastels on blue construction paper. For many, this became their favorite project. I was surprised by how many students had never learned basic art skills, like caring for brushes, mixing colors, or using pastels. Watching them grow in creativity and confidence has been incredibly rewarding. Displaying their artwork at parent-teacher conferences brought so much pride to both students and parents.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has truly changed our classroom atmosphere. These materials helped me build stronger relationships with my students and helped them see themselves as creators, problem-solvers, and artists. Many now ask, \"When is our next art project?\"\r\n\r\nOur next steps will continue integrating science, art, and writing because hands-on projects make learning memorable and fun. The supplies you provided will continue supporting engaging lessons all year.\r\n\r\nThank you again for believing in our class and giving my students opportunities they will never forget. Your kindness has made a real and lasting impact.","fullyFundedDate":1757541118774,"projectUrl":"project/exploring-science-with-color-canvas-an/9692281/","projectTitle":"Exploring Science with Color, Canvas, and Creativity","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. White","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10245685"},{"teacherId":2458425,"projectId":9617209,"letterContent":"Thank you for your kind donation to my project. Your generosity brought so much joy, creativity, and excitement into our SDC kindergarten classroom. The moment my students saw the new art materials—construction paper, craft supplies, and all the colorful tools—they were smiling, pointing, and eager to explore. For many of my students, hands-on, sensory-rich activities are essential for learning, and these materials opened the door to so many meaningful opportunities.\r\n\r\nWe have already begun using the supplies during our fine motor centers, art rotations, and Friday project time. Students practiced cutting, gluing, and building with the new materials, and it has helped them strengthen their hand muscles, improve coordination, and express themselves creatively. One of our favorite classroom moments was when a student who normally avoids art sat down, picked out his favorite colors, and independently created a picture—something he had never done before. These small successes are huge victories in our classroom.\r\n\r\nYour support also allows us to plan new, engaging art lessons that tie into literacy and thematic units. Our next steps include creating monthly themed art projects, developing student memory books, and giving students more opportunities to make choices, share ideas, and proudly show off their work. Your generosity has already made such a meaningful difference in our classroom. My students look forward to snack time every single day—it has become a moment where they feel cared for, energized, and ready to learn. For many of my students in our SDC classroom, staying regulated and focused throughout the day is a challenge, and having consistent snacks available has truly helped them stay engaged during lessons and center rotations.\r\n\r\nWhen the snacks first arrived, my students were so excited! Several of them immediately pointed, clapped, or smiled big when they saw the boxes. It may seem simple, but for my students, having their favorite snacks available helps them feel safe, supported, and motivated. It has also greatly reduced frustration during transitions, especially for students who rely on routine and predictable breaks.\r\n\r\nBecause of your kindness, we can continue working on important academic and functional skills with fewer interruptions. Our next goal is to incorporate snacks into our communication practice—students will use their AAC devices, picture cards, or verbal requests to choose their snacks each day. This gives them a natural, fun, and meaningful opportunity to practice communication skills.\r\n\r\nThank you again for believing in my students.
