My Project

I love that my 8th and 9th grade students are resilient, creative, and hungry to succeed—even when reading feels impossibly hard. They come to class with big dreams, unique perspectives, and so much potential. Many have faced significant barriers to literacy, but they show up every day ready to try.

They deserve a classroom that believes in them and gives them the tools to unlock their confidence as readers and writers.

My students need to see themselves in stories. Access to high-interest, diverse books at varied reading levels will help them find books they want to read. When students connect emotionally to a story, they're more likely to persist through challenging text.

Anchor charts for reading and writing visual scaffolds are game-changers for struggling readers and students with special needs. Anchor charts provide concrete reference points for strategies like decoding, comprehension, and organizing ideas. Students can independently access these supports without always needing teacher prompting.

Strategic ELA learning tools and hands-on, game-based learning makes practice feel rewarding instead of punishing. My students need repeated, low-pressure opportunities to practice skills. Games reduce anxiety and build automaticity with phonics, vocabulary, and writing conventions.

Many of my students are overwhelmed by chaos or visual clutter. Organization supplies help reduce cognitive load and distractions so students can focus energy on learning, not managing confusion.

Classroom decor and rewards create a welcoming, encouraging environment sending a powerful message: You belong here. You matter. You can do hard things. Class rewards celebrate effort and growth—critical for students rebuilding their identity as learners.

With these resources, I can create an intervention-rich classroom where every student, especially those with special needs, has equitable access to the support systems, materials, and encouragement they need to become confident, capable readers and writers.
