My Students

I am a School Social Worker working with two, small classrooms of middle grade students in Rochester, NY. Our program is specifically for students who are developmentally disabled and have some behavioral issues. The kids struggle with managing their feelings and behaviors at times at school, and use my office as a safe space to use when they are having a hard time. I also see students regularly for counseling sessions.

I need your help to create a calm, safe space for my students to come when they need support or a break from their regular school day.

We use my space for therapeutic play, calming, and to work on their social and emotional goals. I am new to the program and cannot afford to set up the space as I would like for it to be most welcoming and beneficial to my kids.

My Project

These items will be used to support my students' social emotional learning, help teach them coping skills, and create a comforting environment for them to come to when they need extra support.

It's important for my counseling office to be a comfortable landing space for kids when they are upset, which why the bean bag would be a great addition to my space.

The other items will help to teach my students social skills, to learn about their emotions, and to add some fun to our counseling sessions. Because my students all deal with varying levels of developmental disabilities, it's even more important for them to learn these social and cooling skills as they progress through school and life.
