This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students attend a school in East Dallas, where the majority of their families are in the low-economic status. It is challenging for these families to provide supplies for all their children who need items like pencils, paper, folders, binders and many other supplies to get them through the day. Also, this classroom provides them with a safe and comfortable environment and a connection to their culture and themselves. I want my students and their families to feel supported and for them to know that there is hope and assistance right around the corner. Please help us!

My students are a diverse group of children, all of whom come from bilingual households and they are apart of our Secondary Dual Language Program.

Through this program, they take 2 classes in Spanish, one Spanish

Language Arts/Dual Language and the other is a core course (Math/ Texas History/Science). Our goal is to assist these students in being bilingual, biliterate and bicultural, to prepare them for their academic future.

My Project

Please help. A constant battle we face is not having enough supplies. We need the basics such as pencils, paper, highlighters, and copy paper. The World languages department this year has switched to books as a reference material only. Now we have to resort to making copies for students to fill in notes and annotate on. The tools that they will need to succeed in developing literacy in their native language are pencils, pens, highlighters, post it notes and copy paper. This will also help their interactive notebooks and projects.

Having the all the materials and supplies we need for the year is a huge relief of stress and worry.

We are given 2 boxes of paper per department per 6 weeks, and with 10 language teachers with 120 students each we tend to run short very quickly. This paper will benefit my Spanish students higher literacy level. With the advanced reading and analyzing that they need to do, this supply of paper will be greatly appreciated. Aside from paper, project supplies like glue, colored paper and scissors are used every 6 weeks. We have interactive notebooks and color coding the pages really help keep my students organized. With your support my students will be supplied and equipped for success this year because of generous individuals and businesses like you!
