Essential Instruments

My students need a snare drum and stand, plus cymbals and stands, for concert band. Our percussion section has been lacking the appropriate instruments for band for many years due to limited funding.

My Students

A cracked guiro, a snare that sounds like a tin can, a snare drum stand that falls over, the percussion instruments for concert band we do have are completely worn out! That isn't our only probably, we lack the simple essential percussion instruments we need for many concert pieces.

My students put many hours into our band program.

It does not just stop at the end of marching season, we continue our after school rehearsals every Tuesday and Thursday to improve their playing skills and to work on Concert band music. They are hard workers in the band room, in the community and in the classroom! The band's average GPA is a 3.5. The students are from a diverse community; some come from farming families, some from ranching families, some families are experiencing the affects of the economy and some are blue collar workers. However, in the classroom they are all musicians working as a team to grow and perform. Money does not just fall into the band program, many of the students do fundraisers to help raise the money we need and some work with their parents in the Concession stand to help build up funds for our band program. It just is not enough to purchase pricey/quality instruments our students deserve!

My Project

The instruments will enhance our Concert Band program tremendously! Everyone knows that every section of the band is very important but could you imagine a piece such as the "Little Drummer Boy" being played on a snare that is worn out. Many of these percussion students get so discouraged because we do not have the instruments we need for the pieces we select. If we have them they are not quality instruments, which ultimately affects the sound. Some of our students are considering continuing their education in the music field, we need to be able to provide them with quality essential instruments for a quality experience so the outcome is a quality Concert band! Our goal is to go to Concert Band Contest and score superior ratings. This builds my student's confidence and encourages them to continue growing as a musician.

Even though our project includes essential instruments for just one family of the band, it is vital to have all families covered in a concert band to work as a team.

We must perform as one to be the best we can be. Which means all members need the instruments they need to perform the music that will increase our skill level. PLEASE HELP put these ESSENTIAL INSTRUMENTS in the hands of my students. We need to fund this project quickly...Concert Band Contest is in March!!
