Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students come from an urban community in California, and 100% receive free lunch. We lack materials and supplies because of major budget cuts in the elementary public schools, which has made it a bit difficult and has forced us to use our creativity to teach.

I have a diverse group of energetic first graders this year.

They range from a few high performing, to the majority being low performing students. There is also an influx of immigrants who are new to the country, who are learning English for the first time. Yet, I am determined to provide students with meaningful learning experiences where they can acquire life-long skills to be successful individuals.

My class has a wide range in academic proficiencies. Some of my first graders thrive, while many others are falling behind. To bridge this huge gap, I need differentiated homework and the passages for students to practice in class and at home.

Due to the learning gap, I have to restructure my curriculum to accommodate and meet the needs of my struggling students and gifted students. I would like to provide them with as much practice as I can to support their learning, but finding homework and passages at each of their levels can be a daunting and time-consuming task. Teachers Pay Teachers is a great resource to use to provide my students with curriculum-based practice that is targeted and meaningful.
