Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are energetic, kind, curious children. They love to learn and explore the world around them. Many of my students come to school speaking English as their second language or not speaking English at all.

My students love activities that involve movement and play.

Many of them have never been in school before and are learning how to follow directions in English, become an independent learner, and get along with their peers on top of all the academic demands placed on them. Most of my students come from low income homes, and all receive free breakfast and lunch at school. School is often the only place where most of them feel safe, loved, happy, and successful.

Over the past few years, I have had more students beginning kindergarten with poor fine motor skills and sensory issues that negatively impact their learning.

My Project

Classrooms can be big overwhelming places for our youngest learners, especially learners with sensory issues. All of the items requested will help to create a calm, fun, positive, welcoming learning environment for all my students.

The florescent light filters will help to make the classroom a calmer, more welcoming environment by filtering out some of the harsh light.

The trampoline will be used as a positive behavior incentive and a fun learning tool. Jump and spell sight words, count how many times you jump, and much more! The sensory learning tubs will help with my students who have sensory issues by giving them various textures to touch while they are learning. The therapy putty will help to strengthen fine motor skills in my students and also give them a sensory output to help them focus on their learning. The alphabet rockets are a fun, engaging way to learn and review our important letters and sounds.
