My Project

Sensory play plays an important role in the development of a child, especially during the early years. It creates connections in the brain that help in completing daily tasks. It allows the brain to develop and allows an understanding of the environment.

Sensory play focuses on activities that engage the senses, helping to develop language skills and motor skills as well as foster cognitive growth, social interactions and encourage in experimentation.

The Pediatrics division at the Cleveland Clinic helps us to understand the importance of sensory play, addressing 2 overlooked systems in the body: proprioceptive and vestibular systems. Our proprioception sense refers to awareness of one’s body. It helps us know where body parts are relative to one another and tells us how much force we need to exert when holding, pushing, pulling or lifting objects. Our vestibular sense, also known as our movement or balance sense, allows us to maintain balance while engaging in activities.

The materials in this project will promote sensory play and exploration with specific attention to the sense of sight. The building blocks light up when placed on a base to activate the creation. The water cubes will stimulate the senses during water play. We would love your help to make this dream a reality in my Young Fives classroom. Thank you for considering us!
