My Students

I teach 25 sixth grade students from South Jordan, Utah. These soon-to-be teens are curious about life, others' experiences and they are natural learners. My students love to study the past and present issues of other young people their age.

The students would benefit from a variety of learning materials that let them explore literacy through different types of texts.

Reading is at the heart of our classroom. Learning about past, present, and potentially future global issues helps them connect core concepts to their own lives and nurtures empathy and understanding.

My Project

As a first-year teacher, I am actively trying to grow my student library and reading materials in addition to cultivating my students' love of reading. One major part of my classroom is our library. An important part of our day is reading aloud and discussing the text. I am trying to grow the variety of materials the students can access, both informational and fictional. Your donation will allow me to have a class set of two important novels as well as a year subscription to Scholastic News, which features stories from around the world. These materials will be used to engage the students and expose them to global issues, both past, and present, for years to come.
