Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are dynamic! They are at-risk children who are coming out of early intervention birth to three programs and into district preschools settings to receive special education services. In addition, I also work with their typically developing peers.

Each of my students, regardless of ability, can better learn through real and meaningful experiences; through study and investigation.

The children in my classes vary in their abilities, both academically and in their communication. Some children are not yet verbal. Some have articulation errors. Some experience difficulties in communication because they are on the autism spectrum. Some have difficulty with formulating language in both syntax and semantics. For all of these students learning through experience and doing is crucial. Many of them have to have continued exposure and experience in order to gain even very basic skills.

I embrace our district motto "Every Child, Every Day" in my classrooms. I believe that every child should be given the best opportunity to learn and achieve every day. A vital component in achieving this is having the appropriate visuals/materials that can give students opportunities to experience and discover through-project based learning.

My Project

The requested materials will help me give more options to families that would like to have manipulatives at home for learning. By using these materials, families will be encouraged to engage together doing simple mathematics like counting and measuring. They will also have the opportunity to check out the letters in the alphabet packs. With these they can do several things. They can match the letters. They can work on letter names and sounds. They also can play games together as they think of words they know that start or end with those letter sounds.

Online learning engagement can also be increase as I have access to prepared question prompt materials and social emotional awareness questions and scenarios.

These are materials that I really wished that I had on hand the last couple on years.
