Our school is an inner-city school with a diverse population. We have over 850 children walking through our hallways, speaking a variety of languages and coming from different socioeconomic backgrounds. Each day these students enter a safe learning environment and are greeted with smiles from dedicated, caring staff members.
I love to teach, and I want my students to love learning.
Language Arts encompasses reading, writing and speaking, and I try to engage students by using the arts to enhance their learning. This is a challenge with a district that is underfunded. I appreciate the opportunity to help me help my students.
My Project
I am always working to become a better teacher than I was yesterday. I look for activities and lessons that will engage students and give them optimal learning opportunities. And so, I have found numerous resources and teacher materials that I can use to reinforce the curriculum. I am most excited about the daily review package where students will strengthen their vocabulary and grammar skills on a daily basis. These tools are comprehensive and challenging, and over time, students will greatly benefit from these daily reviews.
Most middle schoolers enjoy working collaboratively, and many of these resources will engage students with small group instruction such as task cards and literature stations.
In so doing, these activities will complement and heighten students' learning potential.
