My Students
My kindergarten students come to school every day eager and excited to learn despite many challenges some are facing. I teach in a low income/high poverty school in the inner city. 83% of our students receive free or reduced lunch. Many of my students are English language learners. 72% of our students are Hispanic or Asian. Diversity is recognized, accepted and promoted in our classroom.
The 5 best words to describe my students are curious, cheerful, determined, imaginative, and energetic.
In our classroom creativity, innovation, and initiative are encouraged and celebrated. Children are given time to explore, make related discoveries, and experience enriched, hands-on, developmentally appropriate activities. High expectation of learning is set for all my students in an environment that is honest, respectful, caring and safe for all.
My Project
The Botley Coding Robot will engage and inspire my students to be STEM learners. Programming literacy is an important skill and Botley is a way to bring that skill into the hands of kindergarten students.
The best part of Botley is he is 100% screen free so we are able to use him in our classroom.
We need to prepare students to be successful in their future and with many jobs involving coding on eod the best ways to prepare them is through engineering design skills. Children need experience in being problem solvers and Botley will do just that
Help my students be able to practice coding skills in an engaging kid friendly way. By learning to code you are helping us learn and understand about the world around us.
