My Project

I am a high school social worker and am attempting to provide a holistic approach to working with students. I have requested a weighted vest, desk sized exercise bike, and punching bag in an effort to assist my students in ridding themselves of excessive energy when they are feeling overly hyper or anxious.

These items can be utilized for brain breaks to help them decompress and get back to the task of academics.

Traditional counseling and talking certainly assist with the mental aspects that students may experience. However, there are times when a physical outlet is equally helpful. I would like my office space to be a place where students are assured that whatever challenges they are facing or whatever need they have can be adequately addressed in a holistic way. This includes mental, emotional, creative and physical outlets.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
