My Students

The students in my English I classroom come from a small bayou community in southeastern Louisiana, where you just about can't throw a shoe without hitting a cousin of some sort. This close-knit community makes for exciting classes, where the students all know each other coming in. Grouping for projects is always fun because the dynamics of the students working together provide for an ever-changing view and discussion in the classroom.

Over the years, I have found that engaging students with movement helps with the overall enjoyment of the class and retention of the material.

My students have embraced the district's vision for technology use in the classroom, but they still love it when they can read from an actual book instead of on-screen, or take out the giant Post-Its for a classroom gallery walk project.

My Project

The tagboard, markers, and giant sticky notes will be used by my students for group projects and engaging activities such as gallery walks and learning stations. The Astrobrights printer/copy paper will be used for one-page projects analyzing literature and copying important resources for student reference. We will use the sticky notes in class while reading to mark important quotes for analysis in student writing. The two metal shelving units will be used as storage for the Astrobrights paper, poster markers, and the novels they previously received for their classroom library. To top it off, students will be able to create customized bookmarks with materials from this project to keep their place in our classroom novels.
