Before Hurricane Ida, our school district had just implemented a 1:1 computer program for students. We have been embracing technology with open arms in the district and the classroom, but sometimes students just want to feel the paper and materials in their hands. They are always excited when they're told about the next project they'll be working on because it means they get to show their creativity.
With the supplies from this project, students will be able to showcase their talents in ELA, and I hope that the new classroom library will help to foster their love of reading. Before the storm, students would ask to take a book home or borrow from the shelf to read after taking an exam. Hurricane Ida took all of the books that I had collected over the years, and with your help, I am hoping to recreate that learning space for my students.
The art supplies and highlighters will be invaluable in the classroom for student learning. Students love to create, even if they aren't the "best" at it because it gives them an outlet to do something tactile instead of just pointing and clicking at a screen. The rolling cart will be used to house the art supplies, and the highlighters will be used throughout the school year for editing purposes and pointing out different literary focuses as we read and annotate texts.
