This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"Every Art should become Science and every Science should become Art." -Heinrich Von Schlegel. This quote resonates with me because that is exactly what I intend to do in my classroom: infuse Art and Science to engage students in an innovative, entertaining, and meaningful way to learn.

I have 27 wonderful 5th grade students.

They are very enthusiastic about learning and always eager to learn new things. They love coming to school every day and always have big smiles on their faces despite the socioeconomic hardships they endure in the community in which they live. They attend a school in California in a low income neighborhood. The school is both a regular and highly gifted/magnet institution. However, my students are part of the regular school and do not have access to the materials and enrichment activities that the magnet students have.

My Project

The objective of this project is to create an innovative way to learn by "Empowering Students Through Art". Students will work in groups. Each group will be assigned one body system, such as the Respiratory System, Circulatory System, Digestive System, and Excretory System. Students will use the Chromebook to conduct research on the body system that was assigned to them by visiting such websites as Brainpop where students can watch videos, read articles, and take quizzes. Once they have gathered enough information, they will use the mini iPad to create a visual presentation (i. e. Movie or Trailer) using the iMovie application. These presentations will be shared with the whole class. They will also use the Chromebook to create a report with their findings and use clip art or photographs from the Internet to add illustrations. The printer will be used to print the reports in color. Reports will then be posted on our science bulletin board in class.
