One student even asked, \"Is this really for us?\" They spent the first five minutes just testing out the \"squishiness\" and picking their favorite colors on the rug. It immediately made the room feel more like a home and less like just a building. The mat has given them an area of soft ground to sit on, and the weighed blanket the additional support to help them self regulate. My students tell me they need a break, go to the calming place and take a few minutes to process what they are feeling. This space allows to take a minute and then rejoin us ready to learn!
