Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My middle school is in a diverse, high-poverty, urban area in Durham, NC. We have an economically, racially, linguistically, and culturally-diverse group of middle school students. We are a Title I school and 80% of our students participate in free and reduced lunch. Our after school programs have historically been limited, but we have made it a school priority to improve extracurricular activities. We are aiming to make clubs and sports more accessible to our students with a variety of after-school programs, transportation options, and equipment provisions.

We want to empower our girls with the confidence, discipline, teamwork, and leadership that can be built through a quality soccer program.

My Project

We need gear and equipment to help build our middle school girls soccer program. We have a number of girls that are interested in playing sports, but need help acquiring basic gear like shorts and socks. We want to make sure that soccer is accessible to every girl at our school, and that money is not a limitation for participation. We would like for players to be able to "check out" the equipment they need for the season, and return it for use in future years. We are being very intentional about creating a soccer program that is inclusive, positive, and long-lasting. All of our girls will play in every game, regardless of ability.

We are investing in our girls' futures as athletes and equipping them with skills they need to become strong female leaders.

Teaching our girls the game of soccer and building character are our top priorities. Please help use give the gift of quality training gear that will help our girls improve their fitness, succeed as a team, and know that they are valued.
