ELLs Need The Science Of Reading Too

Help me give my students resources to support the science of reading based instruction.

My Project

The science of reading is finally taking NYC public schools and hopefully the country by storm. Previously, many programs have touted a print rich classroom, or systematic phonics instruction, but usually one of the two were prioritized. Now, public schools are making strides to ensure that children are given everything they need to access high quality, comprehensive literacy instruction.

For English Language Learners it becomes a challenge to provide the appropriate entry point for their success.

When students start after their peers have learned the most rudimentary skills, letters and letter sounds, resources that are appropriate are sometimes sparse.

Personally, I spend an inordinate amount of time piecing together and preparing developmentally and age appropriate materials that at times lack continuity.

I would love to spend that time preparing other resources like tools to use in their regular classrooms or at home to extend and further support their learning.

Please help support my students and I to learn English in the way that they and all learners deserve!
