Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Special Education is a true calling for me because my fantastic kiddos are often marginalized and overlooked because they do not make up the majority of the student body. Additionally, many of my students are from homes that make less than the state's average poverty amount with many family members being supported by single parents who have very limited access to tools that can support healthy learning at home. Our school has a true passion for showing these students there is more than the status quo.

My kiddos are all amazing students, each with many more strengths than academic or processing weaknesses and I have discovered that all some of them need is access to the tools to show what they are truly capable of.

Just like in real life, it is my goal to show my students that you don't have to know everything, just how to get what you need to be successful. Many of my students struggle with dysgraphia and dyscalculia. When asking my students to pick up a writing utensil to solve math problems many of them shut down because they are embarrassed about their handwriting and don't even attempt the new mathematical concepts.

My Project

I'm a firm believer in Whole Child Education; therefore, teaching my students responsibility and real-life computer skills will greatly help my kiddos become more well-rounded students.

My students have difficulty with hand-eye coordination and following multiple-step directions so providing an educational coding robot will greatly help my students with responsibility, dexterity, and adaptive learning ability.

This will provide a fun and practical way for the students to strengthen their ability to follow and give multistep directions. In addition, this will help their coping skills to allow for their adaptive thinking to take center stage when things do not go as planned. As I am a Special Education Teacher I have the ability to teach my students subjects that will enable them to be successful in the future.
